Have a listen and we think you will agree: http://www.netlivemusic.com/meettheday So, Hillary has tallied the results of the first vote of her campaign for the presidency. Her supporters (and maybe some who just wanted to throw off the results - think "vote for the worst" movement for Sanjaya) have chosen YOU and I by Celine Dion. I am wondering if the lyrics tell us anything about the type of president Hillary may be: "High above the mountains, far across the sea Sailing like a bird high on the wings of love Sounds like it is meant to be positive and uplifiting which, I guess, are two good attributes in a campaign song. But, it doesn't get at the issues at all. If the whole point is just to bring some fun and humor into the campaign than I have to admit I liked Jon Stewart's "Let's Get Hillary" better. You can see a video of him performing this take-off on "Let's Get Physical" on her website. I think he is gently poking fun at the whole idea of a campaign song contest and I have to agree that it does seem rather silly. But, music can make you think and it can inspire people. Not the song she chose, however, which is just happy talk. I would prefer a song with lyrics that actually say something about the world situation, or at least refer in some way to the need for change! How about "I HOPE" from the Dixie Chicks? At least it talks about finding a different way. It gets my vote. Maybe Dennis Kucinch will use it. "Sunday morning, I heard the preacher say I hope so too. This election needs to be about peace, the environment and economic justice. If it is only a change of political parties, without a substantial change of policy, than it will be politics as usual. The children of the world deserve better!
" All I know is sometimes things can be hard John Butler Trio -Better than. Every now and again you hear a song lyric and it just hits you like a brick wall. No yielding, no budging and no give. Its not that the lyrics are necessarily elegant or eloquent, but it is that they ring true to you instantly. Like a resounding gong of truth or at least some sort of insight into some truth. You see the lyrics as a truism that continues to resonate even after the song has long since stopped playing. These JBT lyrics have not left my head since I first heard them: 'Cos I know the grass is greener but And in these words I have found some truth.
